Ok. I don’t think I ever really made a proper introduction on my work place, as I just finally realized that I could actually blog about my shop :P This idea struck me while I was blogging about Poppies on my personal site. Plus whereby on this site seems a little bit stagnant. Hehehe. But it’s all good. Anyway, enough said.. On to business.

You would be first greeted by the Foo Dogs (they’re for sale too :D)
Situated at the heart of Main Bazaar, we are located just opposite the waterfront near to the police station. Here you would be able to find all sorts of Sarawak souvenirs from beaded items, textile, shells, wooden items, baskets and small items. We do sell Chinese Antiques dated all the way from the Tang Dynasty to Qing Dynasty.
One of our popular items would be our wooden boxes. These lovely boxes are actually carved from the basic Iban pattern, which could represent certain tribe or symbolic creatures. Never the less, these boxes are indeed a nice collection to have where you can actually put your jeweleries or miscellaneous stuff in them. Before we actually sell these boxes, we had to polish them first so that they would stand out more nicer as well as more elegant. But never the less these boxes should pretty much look very nicely on your dressing table or even next to your TV. These would make excellent gifts for those who collect boxes.

Left To Right :- Wooden Coasters, Wooden Ducks, Wooden Hornbill, & Aso Bowl
Another popular item which is also known as the Aso Bowl. Made from Iron wood or also known as Kayu Berlian, these are actually mystical creatures that were actually carved by the Dayaks. Aso which is also known as a Dragon Dog which consist of 5 different animals which are Crocodile, Dog, Monkey, Mouse deer, & Wild boar. Each different animals also has it’s own significant, where as The Mouth is from the Crocodile which represent Strength. The Eyes are from the Monkey which represent Intelligence. The Ears are from the Mouse deer and The Feet are from The Wild Boar, which both represent Prosperity. And The Body is from The Dog, which represent Friendship. The Dayaks believed that the combination of these animals would bring luck plus protection from evil spirits.

Matching bracelets & necklaces can be found
Beaded items are considered as local delicacies, where we normally get these item from the Dayaks which pretty much took up a lot of time to make into these purse, hand phone case, baskets, bracelet and necklaces. But you’ve got to admit the amount of time they really spend in making these things, plus they probably need a very sharp eyes to make sure the beads goes into the right place. There are certain items such as the panels, which actually have different pattern as well as it’s own story behind it. Some got their inspiration from dreams, which they believed that it’s a sign from the spirits asking them to weave these patterns out. But you would normally see Spirit patterns, Hornbill and even Tigers.
Welcome to our main product or major field in this shop. We have a variety of genuine antiques pieces dated all the way back to the Tang Dynasty to the late Qing era. With over 30 years of experience in handling antiques, you can rest assure that the pieces that are found here are 100% genuine. If there have been any crack or repair on a piece, we can surely informed you before you make any purchase.
You can be sure investing on antiques would be much safer compared to investing stocks. You can see a few example that was auctioned in Christie, good pieces shot up to HKD832.2 million. Those are the one if you really have good pieces or also known as Imperial ware, which was specially made to be placed in Emperor palace. All you need to find is just that one piece, and you can be sure you will not have to worry for the next 4-5 generation.
But not necessary one must collect imperial items, but there are also other collectible items one could actually purchase and stock up for own satisfaction. After being here for a few years, I’ve noticed there are a lot of different types of collectors where some would collect based on each different dynasties. During the Song Dynasty, there are a lot of people who love to collect Celadon pieces. These are much costly pieces as they have glaze which are still intact, unlike the shipwreck pieces which basically their glaze got pretty much
corroded from the sea water. But there are those who still collect shipwreck pieces as well, considering the fact that it is old plus some might find it interesting to own a part of history.
If we turn back time just a little bit, under the ruling of Emperor Kang Xi was recorded the most successful Emperor in China. During the time of 61 years of ruling China, there had been a lot of great porcelain that was made. Then it was only his son Emperor Yong Zheng started to catalog all these pieces. And there were a total of 28,870 pieces which was recorded in these collections. For more details you can read it here, on how they transport all these antiques during the World War 2 ensuring that all these 28,870 pieces will arrive safely to where it is now. Which of course is at the National Palace Museum, in Taiwan. You can be fasicinated on how they managed to moved these antiques and where they hid it as well.
Being an antique collector is actually like any other collectors such as stamps or even coins. People would pay high price for a certain coin, stamp or even an action figure just to own it. Same goes to antique, where it first started out in interest first. Collecting antiques you are indirectly collecting part of history. What makes it interesting is that, you would probably wonder what in the world this item was used for back then and could probably cost a fortune today. Probably you can buy something cheaper first before investing in something more costly :)
